Hey all!
I'm just curious, what are some chores that you hate doing? What are some that you don't mind?
For me, I absolutely hate doing dishes. I feel like it takes forever! I wish I had a dish washer lol..but then I hate putting them away lol..
As for the household chore I don't mind I'd say doing laundry..It's simple..folding it is a bit of a pain but really it's not that bad.
The chore I hate doing is cleaning floors, whatever it is. Sweeping, mopping, and especially vacuuming. I live with my parents so rarely do it (even though I have my own broom and mop), but I used to have to do it at TSB and never looked forward to it. I'd probably pay someone to do it for me if I got my own place. *smile* It'd be the same with mowing lawn.
Cleaning smaller surfaces like counters, tables, things like that, I don't mind as much. And I also usually don't mind washing dishes either because I feel like I'm good at it. *smile* Putting away and organizing things I wouldn't mind either.
As for laundry, I've only had to do small loads of my own clothes so far at TSB and Criss Cole. I think I wouldn't mind it if I had a way of sorting the clothes as I go, for instance going thru the house each day to gather the laundry and having baskets in the laundry room each already designated for whites, colored, delicate, jeans, etc. That and having the pairs of dirty socks held together with rust-proof safety pins. It would drive me crazy though if I had to sit there and sort thru laundry before I could wash them, and sitting there pairing socks afterward. I'd get really bored after just a few minutes of the sorting and pairing.
Erm...I hate sweeping and mopping as well, and Tessa (I'm bad with names, so forgive me if I'm getting you confused with someone else), I'm the exact opposit of you; I absolutely hate doing laundry, because I feel like it's too time consuming, but I don't mind doing dishes, apart from the long period of having to stand at the sink...but either way, these chores have to be done. :p
I'm happy doing just about anything in the house, once I get started on it. It's the getting started part that I dread, but I'll put headphones on so I can read a book while I wash dishes and clean the counters and table. I think the reason a lot of blind people don't like to do floors is because they're never sure that they did a good job on it. With a dish or a countertop, you can pretty much feel it and tell that it's done well. I don't mind doing floors, but I want a sighted person to come in once in a while to show me what I've missed. I vacuum really well first and then walk barefoot to make sure that all the dirt is up. Then I mix up my hot mop water and use a bathtowel to mop it. I just ring it out and put it on the floor and drag it around with my feet, making sure that the towel is always going the same way. So when I turn a corner, I actually turn the towel as well, so it doesn't redistribute whatever it's managed to pick up.
If I had a washer and dryer in my apartment, I wouldn't mind doing laundry, but the good thing about going to the laundromat is that I can do 5 loads at a time, so it sort of pays off. I love to cook, but it gets a bit tiresome when I'm just cooking for myself.
I don't mind doing ishes, like some of you have said, but floors are a bitch to maintain, especially carpets, as my dog is shedding. Ugh, it's that time of year again ...
I hate moppping, and getting on my hands and knees to scrib when it's necessary really hurts my back.
I'm actually consiering having my back looked at. Something's definitely not right with my spine. all those years of slouching and carrying heavy braille books to and from school have left it curve, and sitting up straight is painful, but I've already discussed this issue in a topic under the health and wellness section.
Getting back to the topic at hand, doing laundry isn't too bad either.
Pardon the typos. The stupid D key on this keyboard is driving me insane ...
Interesting thoughts all! Yeah, floors are really annoying..I hate them to! The idea with the towel that Anthony mentioned now that's interesting never thought of that. I love the swiffer wet jet thing..it's awesome!
The swiffer is okay, I guess, but I find that it doesn't really do the deep cleaning that I like. I even tried one of those sharke VacThenSteams and it didn't suit me.
Now there's an idea I must try with floors. thanks for the suggestion. I have a mop, but find getting on my hands and knees does a better job. I'll definitely try the bath towel idea, though. I don't particularly like vacuuming, either, but there are worse chores, like washing dishes. I know part of it is that I'm really picky and I'll keep washing a dish until I'm absolutely sure I've got every crumb and greece spot off it, so it takes a little longer than it does for some people, but at least the dishes are clean. I also agree with Devilish anthany that getting started with anything is usually the hardest part. But I find a little cup of coffee just before hand is enough to give me that extr push.
As for chores I don't mind, doing laundry is the least hated of the chores, because the washer and drier do a lot of the work. I hang most of my clothes in the closet, so putting them away isn't too bad either.
I love laundry and dishes. Also I do not mind vacuuming. Not ashamed to say I had a cleaning person to help with dusting, moping, and the bathroom. Cooking am not great at but I feel if I did it more I would get better.
I really don't think there's anything wrong with hiring some help, as long as you can keep chores under control yourself. Hey, I've heard even some sighted people will occasionally hire someone professional just to give their house that little extra shine every so often. We all have our moments when we miss a couple spots, or where we're not giving it our all, and it'll eventually add up.
I don't mind organizing, doing laundry, dishes, cleaning tables/counters/stove, cleaning the bathroom, dusting, vaccuming, and using the Swiffer. I don't like using a regular broom or mop though. Living in an apartment, it sucks taking out the trash to the dumpster if there's not one close by. I also want to get better at cooking.
I was about to post here long back. but I got angry with the site down thing while I was hittin the post reply button.
so now, I'm happy doing any work other than cooking. I dono to cook to be honest. But I can do any work without any hesitation. as long as the weather is not sooo hot and with humid. during that time, I want to just lie under my AC. lol.
Raaj.
I'm not the world's best cook but I want to learn more and how to make more recipies. My main problem is knowing when things are cooked all the way through..but that's another topic entirely.
I love to cook, and will be happy to share what little knoledge I have on the subject.
I don't mind washing dishes, cleaning counters and tables and cleaning the bathroom. I don't like doing laundry, sweeping and mopping floors or grocery shopping.
Chores I don't mind:
Domestic pretty much anything, OK nobody likes to clean the head but everybody does it.
Chores I tolerate but can find annoying:
Assisting a young spazz with something with which they, usually she, is having problems but can't say what the trouble is and would rather spazz.
Hmmm...well for me i like doing most likely all. I do kinda hate cleaning the bathroom because it has to be the most clean room at home & i like to keep it super clean. My mom always told me that because when you get visitors they will know how clean it is or not. At least once mayb two times a week i leave the dishes til the next day. I cook & times i get tired after cooking a big dinner that i jus don't want to do the dishes. Sweeping & mopping is not bad for me, the problem i have with that is once its clean it gets dirty again because the baby likes to throw food on the floor, ughhh i hate it. Other than those i mentioned i like keeping the place nice & clean. (:
Bella, i hear you about the cooking a big dinner and then not doing the dishes afterwards.
I like doing most household chores. I love cooking and most times would rather cook than go out to eat. I always have bare feet when I clean the floors I feel it makes it way easier to tell if their clean or not. One of my sighted friends thought that was kind of weird but she thought was a really good idea after I told her why I did it that way lol.
I love to cook, but hate to do dishes..
Most of the time my hatred to do dishes trumps my love to cook..
Laundry is my 2nd most hated chore... washing, drying, folding, putting away... There are way too many steps to finish something so simple. I don't mind anything else, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cutting grass... All of that are no problem for me...
Lol. Areed86, the chores you hate and the chores you don't mind doing are the exact opposite of mine. Just a random thought. hahaha.
